Our final day and we spent it visiting more sights:
- The Judean wilderness.
- Wadi Qilt and the Monastery of St George.
- Qumran – where the Dead Sea Scroll were found.
- Ein Gedi – where David cut a piece off Saul’s garment.
- Jericho – The sycamore tree Zachhaeus climbed (perhaps?)
Just to finish off the trip nicely; we had a moment
of panic on our way back to the airport. In, shall we say,
his eagerness to get us to the airport quickly our driver decided
to encourage the checkpoint guards with a flash of his headlights. This
was not a good idea. The guards took offence and refused to
let us through. Arguments ensued and voices were raised. We
were moved aside to let other traffic through and the army was called. Thirty
minutes of prayer later (we even called home to get the prayer chain
started) we were allowed to pass.
