The Bells of St. Peter's Church

John Betjeman wrote:
“I can make no apology for writing so much about church bells, they ring through our literature as they do our meadows and roofs.  Some may hate them for their melancholy, but they dislike them chiefly, I think, because they are reminders of eternity.  In an age of faith they were messengers of consolation.”

What is Camponology?

Campanology, more commonly known as bellringing is a notably ‘English’ pastime, which originally derived in the British Isles. However, over the last 200 years this remarkable art has expanded over the rest of the world, and today can be found almost everywhere, even as far away as New Zealand and Texas.
The word “campanologist” is often used by people who set crossword puzzles, Bell ringers tend to call themselves bell ringers! Bell ringing is a highly stimulating team activity that results in a beautiful sound. It develops mental and physical skills in a context of communal effort. Many people ring as a contribution to church life.

Becoming a ringer involves many new challenges and frequent opportunities to make new friends.

It is a very worthwhile hobby.
